The Lightbearer

The lids are low, glowing orange they shade flame
An inextinguishable shine comes from her face
When she blinks, the world calls out her name.

A silent scream escapes from a mouth like a drought.
When the joy of living is gone, one still remains.
Restrained and afraid, we writhe and wiggle about.

Peeling back eyelids reveals blinding truth.
A flat earth, the perpetual machine of failure.
Nothing is sacred. Neither beauty, nor youth.

The more ignorant we remain, the more we know.
In the dark, the Lightbearer calls out for you.
As you love only to lose, as you move only to slow.
Your breath escapes between her lips before you go.
